Davie is a town in southwest Broward County, about 18 miles from our base in Pompano Beach, and it is the farthest point on our regular southwestern route. We serve ZIP codes 33314, 33325, 33328 and 33330. Housing in Davie covers a wide range, from established ranch homes to newer subdivisions and larger properties on the western side, so there is no single answer to what wallcovering a Davie home should have. What we can offer is a clear way to choose. This page is organized as a material guide: what each type of wallcovering is good at, where it struggles in a South Florida house, and the prep it needs from us.
Traditional wallpaper
Paper-based wallcoverings, pasted on site or pre-pasted, are what most people picture. They come in the widest choice of patterns and colors and look crisp on a properly smoothed wall. Their weak spot in Florida is moisture: an uncoated paper in a steamy bathroom or a kitchen backsplash area will stain and loosen. In living rooms, bedrooms, dining rooms and hallways, they are an excellent fit.
Prep needs are high. Thin papers reveal every bump and seam in the wall, so a skim coat over builder texture is often part of the job.
One more consideration is how often you like to redecorate. Traditional papers hung over a quality primer can be stripped later without much damage, so they are a reasonable choice even if you expect to change the room in several years. Non-woven papers, a newer category, go up with paste applied to the wall and usually peel off dry in full strips, which makes the next change simpler still.
Vinyl wallcovering
Vinyl, especially solid vinyl with a fabric backing, is the workhorse for humid rooms. It handles steam, wipes clean and resists scuffs, which is why it is also our default for commercial spaces. Modern vinyls imitate linen, grasscloth, plaster and wood convincingly, so durability does not have to mean a plain look.
Because vinyl does not breathe, the wall underneath must be dry and primed with a mildew-resistant product before it goes on. That step matters on exterior concrete-block walls, which can hold moisture during the wet season.
Grasscloth and natural fibers
Grasscloth, sisal, jute and similar materials bring texture and warmth that printed papers cannot copy. Each roll is woven by hand, so color and texture vary, and seams are visible by nature. We lay out the panels before hanging so the shifts between them look gradual instead of abrupt.
Natural fibers absorb water and stain easily. Keep them in dry rooms, out of reach of pets and small hands if possible, and away from sinks.
Murals, peel and stick, and ceilings
These three options are less about material and more about how the wallcovering is used.
- Murals are printed to the size of a specific wall and installed in numbered panels. Measuring precisely before ordering is essential, since an undersized mural cannot be stretched.
- Peel and stick wallpaper is self-adhesive and removable. It suits renters and short-term looks, provided the wall is smooth, clean and primed so humidity does not lift the edges.
- Ceiling wallpaper turns an overlooked surface into a feature. Lightweight papers and careful staging make it practical in dining rooms, powder rooms and bedrooms.
- Accent walls use any of the materials above on a single surface, which is a sensible way to try pattern without covering a whole room.
Prep, removal and repair come first
Whatever you choose, the wall decides how it turns out. If there is existing paper, we remove it and clean off the adhesive. Torn drywall facing gets sealed and skimmed, cracks are filled, glossy paint is dulled, and every wall gets a primer matched to the new material. We would rather tell you a wall needs another day of prep than hang paper we expect to fail.
Moisture checks are part of this stage too. Walls near sliding doors, under windows and around the air handler closet are the usual places to find hidden dampness in a Florida home.
Seasons, storms and our route to Davie
The wet season runs from May through October, with heavy humidity and frequent late-day storms, while November into April is drier and milder. Either works for an install if your AC runs steadily for a few days beforehand. Hurricane season lasts from June 1 to November 30, and we will move a date if a storm approaches. When we head to Davie, we often combine trips with work in North Lauderdale, Wilton Manors, Oakland Park, Margate and Lauderdale-by-the-Sea.
